a naturally occurring carotenoid pigment, is a powerful biological antioxidant.
Astaxanthin exhibits strong free radical scavenging activity and protects
against lipid peroxidation and oxidative damage of LDL-cholesterol, cell
membranes, cells, and tissues.
Astaxanthin
exhibits superior antioxidant properties to beta-carotene, vitamin C, and
is a more effective antioxidant than vitamin E. Research
has shown that natural astaxanthin has up to 550 times the antioxidant activity
of vitamin E and 10 times the antioxidant activity of beta-carotene.
